JOELLE’S CHAIR – A REUPHOLSTERING PROJECT

March 15, 2012 12:49 pm

Before I start, I must warn you that I still have no camera which explains these poor iPhone images. Besides not having a decent camera at home, I am waiting on the postman to deliver the marvellous fabric Joelle chose for her chair that she asked me to reupholster for her. Her friends were apparently horrified that she’d donate the project to So House Proud because they all say it’s incredibly comfortable and perfect just the way it is.

I’ve had it for about 2 months now, partly because I’ve been busy with other university projects but mostly because I’m really, really nervous about this one. Joelle’s friends are right, it is very comfortable (I’ve only sat on it once Joelle, I promise) and I want to send it back home feeling the same way.

.

This is the chair. It was left behind by the previous residents of Joelle’s home. When I finally mustered the courage to remove the fabric I was pleasantly surprise by the orignal material that hid beneath it. This makes my task so much easier as now I can use the cream fabric as a template.

.

The springs were worn so we had to replace two of them. I suggested that Joelle get them from upholsterywarehouse.co.uk and they arrived the following week. Now all that’s left is the fabric from spoonflower.com. I created a mood board of fabric designs on Pinterest for Joelle.

I hope the fabric arrives soon because I’m sure Joelle and her friends are missing their favourite chair.

Happy upcycling!

Yours truly,

Nina

I, for one, am excited rather than nervous. I’m sure the So House Proud team(!) will send the chair back looking gorgeous. Now, let’s hope my friend Jenny feels the same way when ‘her’ chair’s new look is revealed.
